Prof Andrew Ramsay

Andy Ramsay MSc PhD FIBMS is the Chair of ZAFI’s External Advisory Board. He is a freelance public health consultant specialising in infectious disease control and an Honorary Professor in Infection and Global Health at the University of St Andrews Medical School in Scotland.  He has an MSc in Clinical Parasitology from the University of London and a PhD from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Amsterdam.

He has more than 40 years’ experience of medical microbiology starting in the Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine at Edinburgh University.   He has since worked (mainly in Africa, Asia and Latin America) with the University College London Medical School, and the Liverpool and London Schools of Tropical Medicine among others. He was a senior scientist for 12 years in the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases at the World Health Organization (WHO) Headquarters in Geneva.  He frequently serves as an Adviser to WHO and LSTM on One Health, antimicrobial resistance, infectious disease control and operational research.
